provides many of the same benefits as other vegetables of the same family, such
as broccoli, kale, and Brussels sprouts. ... Along with other leafy
greens, arugula contains more than 250 milligrams (mg) per
100 grams (g) of nitrate. It has a distinct peppery flavor.

My Challenge growing Arugula; has been Weeds plus
controlling fast growth. So this year I have started a different way of growing
it. I have always direct seeded arugula in the high tunnel April 15th
if the nights were cold and days cool the plants grew slowly which gave us
small uniform Leaves to harvest 1st week in June just in time for
our first CSA Delivery. The last few years the weather has started colder in
April, which caused the weeds to germinate before the arugula seeds. The seeds
of arugula are sown close together which makes it extremely time consuming to
remove. Then May has been hot which then the weeds and arugula grew too fast,
making weedy/tuff Green Stuff.
This year I have looked at how they grow Micro
Greens. I found that arugula can be grown with mix of other greens. The Seeds
planted in Trays of flats in the Green House, are So I experimented in the
basement, first I tried a mixture of Arugula and Spinach, the arugula
germinates 7 or more day before the spinach, the Spinach did not get to true
leaf in time. Then I tried just arugula but seeded it to heavy. After about a
dozen U tube videos. Arrived at about 1 teaspoon per 10x20 flat then grew it
for 30 days and got a fair crop. A few more tweaks’ and we should have a weed
free tender Arugula for the 2019 Season.
